His influences are wide-ranging, and he is very fond of zouk through artists such as Patrick Saint-Eloi, Harry Diboula and, for the new generation, Marvin, JFP and Fanny J. This is the music that cradled his childhood, but very quickly he moved towards the hip-hop movement, breakdance, rap in the playgrounds and all the artists who appeared on BET. He immersed himself in it, then fell into reggae-dancehall with Sean Paul, Bounty Killa and Beenie Man, and that motivated him to write most of his dancehall lyrics.
It is by mixing all these melodies and particularly Zouk, Rap and Dancehall that he has created his musical identity.
Bonita, Like M'Bappé...
"I felt BONITA more than I thought I would, with little stories I'd heard here and there, the theme came easily to me.
L'Histoire de Comme M'Bappé is a song I wrote for my son, a huge M'Bappé fan. I drew inspiration from the player's footballing and human qualities to make this song a guideline for him, but also for all children in general, so that they can approach life and society in the best possible way. It's obviously a creation with Wilfried Lamar, a talented actor, who duets with me on this track".
Ojee's musical career really got off the ground when he met ChabineProd, whom he contacted via Messenger. Surprised to get a response, he submitted 2 tracks and both were immediately approved! The first single to be released was "Bonita", an Afro-reggaeton beat that was sure to be a hit! The video for Bonita was shot in Calpe, Spain, by Dan Koman. This was followed by the release of "Comme M'Bappé", which was picked up by numerous media outlets and networks with the success we all know.
Who is O'Jee?
"I started making music at the age of 12, making yoghurt with 2 mates, imitating the greatest Jamaican dancehall singers. Then I had a revelation the day I sang Latin Girl by Olivier Jean-Alphonse as a duet with a classmate for the end of year party at the Rose Saint-Juste school in La Trinité.
I knew I wanted to make music every day.
I went on to form a rap group at secondary school, then left to do a BTS in AUDIOVISUAL ENGINEERING in Paris in 2006, where I met the members of my new group La Jahspora Son with LoySonJah and YeahMan C, among others. Then I met Master C Will, the composer of Lovely album, on which I appeared with a track selected for the soundtrack of the film Le Scorpion, With his help, I was featured on the Zone Caraïbes compilation in feat with AP from 113, produced by Manu Key and AP, then much later in 2019, I decided to send my collaboration with this same composer BONITA to the CHABINEPROD label for the first time. I received a message from the label's director Claude Cabit, and then I signed my first contract with great pride. "
The latest single, BONBON, is a hymn to joy, women and pleasure. We worked with Mafio House to create a sound that wouldn't take itself too seriously, with a tangy edge that would appeal to girls and boys alike, and the result is Bonbon, a light dancehall with pop and even house influences ^^.
