KOGUY

Koguy is a singer-songwriter of African origin, born in Brazzaville and living in Guadeloupe for over 23 years.

Born of a Togolese father, who gave him his immoderate taste for jazz, classical music and high life, and a Congolese mother who taught him to discover Rumba music at a very early age, Koguy has always been immersed in the music he wanted to make a career of.

His father, a great lover of the piano since he owned one, refused to let him touch it for fear of putting it out of tune, which prompted Koguy to take up singing, which was less restrictive.

Arriving in Burkina Faso in 1981, he later became a singer in the orchestra of the University of Ouagadougou, where he really practised singing and composition, having written songs for the repertoire of the University orchestra at the time of Thomas SANKARA.

After studying in Burkina Faso, he landed in Bordeaux, where he first took classical piano lessons, before joining Joseph Ganter's Centre de Musique Aquitain, a jazz school, where he took singing and interpretation lessons.

He then went on to join the Bordeaux group FUNKALEON as a singer and composer, recording four songs, including " le trac, Otiki ngai, Elle, and Julie, a cover of a famous song that was very popular in Togo, which gave him the opportunity to create a style that he called Akpè-Funk, much to the delight of music lovers at the time.

In 2004 he finally released his first album of twelve tracks entitled Hearts and souls, where his musical style is a signature blend of Togo-Ghana music and a touch of Congolese Rumba, but with a jazzy twist.

The album features contributions from Togolese artists Benito GABA on piano, African artists Ntumba Minka and Guy Nsangué on bass, Paolo PONDY and Caïn MADOKA on guitar, and big names such as Yves HONORE from Zouk Machine and Expérience 7, Dominique BEROSE on piano and Jacques D'Arbaud.

His great friend and brother, the famous Lokua Kanza, composed the music for the song to you my childwhich is an ode to parenthood.

Koguy is an artist open to all musical influences, which shows his versatility and eclecticism, because as he likes to say, all music helps to uplift the soul.

He is actively working on the release of his second album, which he wants to be as open as possible, but with a lot of High-life influence, music that reminds him of his childhood and which was also his father's music.
