Born on the Caribbean island of Saint-Martin, Malaïka Maxwell's musical journey began in her formative years, surrounded by music at home and immersed in her father's gospel group. After an education in classical music, she pursued further studies in Martinique, where she immersed herself in the local music scene, collaborating with renowned French reggae artists such as Tiwony and Saël.
After returning to Saint-Martin, she expanded her repertoire beyond reggae, embracing soul and acoustic music to connect intimately with her audience.
Recognition came in 2016 with the 'Emerging Artist Award' from the National Institute of the Arts, honouring her dedication and vision in the arts. Her solo performances, including "The Journey to me" at AXUM ART CAFÉ, have been acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, propelling her into the spotlight.
Malaïka's original compositions, including "This Journey" and "Rise Again", demonstrate her versatility and depth as an artist. Collaborations like 'Apran Enmew' with French artist Fred Deshayes and covers like Ella Mai's 'Naked' underline her impact on Caribbean dance floors.
With the success of her self-produced events attracting crowds of 200-300 each year, Malaïka continues to captivate audiences with her moving performances and captivating storytelling. Her latest release, 'Talking', blends Afro rhythms with R&B, marking another milestone in her evolving musical journey.
