Orlane was made a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2024, a distinction that underlines her talent and commitment to music.
Orlane hails from Réunion Island, where she grew up immersed in a rich musical universe combining Africa, the Caribbean and France. Attracted to singing from an early age, she started out in a choir and groups of friends in Saint-Paul.
At the age of 18, she moved to Paris to study English. It was here that her artistic career really began: she took part in a Sacem competition, which she won with a song of her own composition, and collaborated with the group Touré Kunda in 1992. To forge her own musical identity, she formed a jazz quartet and performed live, opening for Al Jarreau and Chick Corea in 1994 and 1995.
In 1996, Orlane discovered Martinique, where she met Éric Virgal, a songwriter and composer from the Antilles. Together, they formed a successful duo that toured throughout the Creole diaspora: Miami, New York, Montreal, Haiti, Abidjan, Reunion, Paris... and of course the West Indies.
His first album, Quite simplywas released in 1997. He revealed his talents as a songwriter with the track Here's whyvoted song of the year by Sacem. Next up: I like (1999), which won three Sacem awards in 2000, and In the Light (2003), in which she sings in French and Creole, paying tribute to her roots.
In 2004, she gave two sell-out concerts in Fort-de-France and Pointe-à-Pitre, confirming her status as a live performer. A double live album and DVD were produced from these performances.
A versatile artist, she also explores theatre (Tartuffe, Tonight we improvise), comedy radio, and is involved in a number of social causes: support for young mothers in difficulty, research into sickle-cell anaemia, children with Down's syndrome, etc.
In 2009, she released Timelessa mature and accomplished album with tracks such as Chokola and Enough chit-chatwhich was very well received by the public. In 2012, she returned to a more zouk style with the album LOV'designed to get people dancing, with titles such as Light and Someone like you.
With a career spanning more than 20 years, Orlane is renowned for her warm voice, her stage presence and her ability to combine emotion, energy and commitment. A key figure in Creole music, she continues to make her mark with her authenticity and her love of live performance.
In 2025, she launched a new live tour and unveiled a new song, Fall In Lovepromises to bring hearts together on the dancefloor
