ALEX CATHERINE

lex grew up in the commune of Sainte-Anne surrounded by his brothers and sisters. As a child, he was immersed in an already rich musical universe. His father loved Gwo-ka and the Lewoz, which was omnipresent in the life of the Catherine clan, with family meals still ending in music today. Of course, Alex's favourite music is Zouk, but he remains open to all genres.

When he was younger, he was particularly fond of Patrick St Eloi. In fact, he covers his songs at singing competitions in the various neighbouring districts.

Alex then joined a small local band, which gave him his first taste of live performance.

In 1989At the age of 18, he entered a singing competition organised by Mr Frédéric Caracas himself (a great bassist and composer from Guadeloupe), the prize for which was the production of an album. Alex won the competition once again, but he didn't feel ready for his first album.

The future Antillaise star is a perfectionist and he prefers to take his time in order to offer the public a quality product. For his debut, he chose to perform three tracks: Kité tchè palé, Regret and Ladies night on the album Kou Doubl . It was a great way to start his career, as it gave him the chance to experience the studio and professional performances.

Visit 1992 Alex is releasing his first solo album: Intimate featuring Moin pé pa oubliéw, Rété, Sylvie, Dou, Tchè, Fragile, Lovely and Bawyo. This album brought him to the attention of audiences far beyond the borders of his home island, and his various tracks remained at the top of the Guadeloupe hits list. The album Intimes helped him make a name for himself in Martinique, French Guiana and Réunion, as well as in the French diaspora, where he was invited on numerous occasions to promote the album. He was awarded the "Les Voix D'Or" trophy in Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana.

1996A new stage with the concept Zouk All Stars. He will be performing 2 tracks of his own: Silence and Belle.

Visit 1998it joins forces with Richard Birmananother young local artist, to create the group Real LimitIt's a concept, a state of mind and also a story of friendship. Their debut album Femmes features 5 tracks of their own composition. The two friends even travelled to the United States to shoot the video. The other tracks on the album - Nou bizwen, Bay, Couté mwen and Léon - went on to win rave reviews from an ever-growing audience. The Lovers Antillais album quickly became the best-selling album in the French West Indies and Guyana.

The year 2000 will herald the arrival of her second solo album, : Between Heaven and Earth. It consisted of 11 tracks, including Nuit magique, Lona, Une étoile, Fan'm bitation, and Lona, considered the best holiday track of that year, was a runaway success. The album was marked by a certain sadness, due to the tragic death of his nephew at the age of just 17, the track "Une étoile" being dedicated to him. On Fanm bitation, he pays tribute to the courage and strength of character of all the women who worked in the cane fields of the West Indies. His father was a home manager, so he knows what he's singing about.

Alex has also composed for other artists including Eric DIHAL (Alizé) and Pascal LANCLUME (Stacy).

Visit 2002 a year that heralds the return of Real Limit with their second opus of 7 new tracks: La déchirure, Tou pré moin, Elle et moi, Real attack, Difé lanmou, Inmé an silence, La visé an comba. The pair of zoukeurs went on to perform a series of concerts. As well as winning several awards and making the front pages of local magazines, they were nominated for the SACEM awards.

2004 Alex is back with his third solo album: Quite simply with 8 tracks: Line, Pé paf è semblan, On ti momen, On bel ti flè, An ké la, Vini. This new album has been eagerly awaited by Alex's fans. Alex took his time to give it his best shot. In November 2004 he was invited to the Seychelles to represent Guadeloupe at the Festival Créole.

2008 by popular demand Alex Catherine & Axel Reekords present Alex Catherine's Best of album "Sur Ma Route Volume 1"The album features 4 previously unreleased tracks: Sans toi, Fleur d'elle, Touché Mwen and Yon a lot. The album is Alex's way of thanking all the people who have helped and supported him over the years, and who have enabled him to continue his successful presence on the West Indian music scene.

In July, the Mayor of the commune, Mr Blaise Aldo, awarded him the Diplôme d'Honneur et de Reconnaissance Artistique in recognition of his artistic career, his work for the cultural heritage and his moral integrity.

AT 2008 For the first time, Real Limit played two dates at Le Bataclan, a major Paris venue. They set the place alight! The audience turned out in force to sing along to their zoukeurs' hits.

December 2008: Alex makes his 1^er solo concert at the Centre des Arts in Pointe à Pitre. A DVD will be released from this concert.

2011 will see the return of the zouk duo. Visit 26 November 2011 The release of the Real Limit 3 album is the date to remember! Real Limit are back in stores and on stage too.

Alex continues his solo career. At 2014 he released The Love Soldier, an 8-track album featuring C'est dur d'aimer, Ma musique, Vivre, K'line and Deal' uzion. An album of many musical colours. Two of the tracks have been featured in music videos (C'est dur d'aimer and Ma Musique).

In April 2016The Prince of Zouk has chosen his homeland to launch the Love Soldier Tour, a live "Mon histoire en Musique" tour to celebrate 25 years in the music business. From Guadeloupe to Paris via Martinique. An opportunity to share his greatest musical hits.

Inspired by a true story, the title " Only for her " was created in 2017. The clip, directed in Paris by Jima KANOR, has attracted over a million views on You Tube.

In collaboration with DJ JACKSON, they composed and produced the track "Vou é Mwen" in 2018.

During the Covid crisis in 2021, he took the opportunity to write and compose the song "Enmé'w". This song was born of the idea of not forgetting to love life, to love your neighbour and to give Love.

On his return from his tour, it was at the Palais des Sports in Gosier that he invited zouk fans to meet him. 11 June 2022 to reconnect with the greatest musical moments of his career. This is Zouk's big reunion with the Guadeloupean public. Prestigious artists have been invited to accompany him on stage.

In November 2022, he gave the same concert to his fans in Martinique.
